Brick Like This from LEGO is childhood nostalgia meets party game, and I’m so here for it.

Brick Like This is a 2-8 player game, where players work together in teams, racing to correctly build the shape on the cards they have chosen. One player instructs, while the other builds. I recently played the two-player cooperative version, in which you set a timer for 10 minutes and see how many cards you can complete.

We really enjoyed working our way up the difficulty challenge of the cards (cards are numbered 5-8, and increase in difficulty and points accordingly). However, we quickly developed names for each shape, so we weren’t finding it too challenging. Our lack of competitors also likely contributed to a decreased sense of urgency and challenge.

Where the game really began to shine, though, was when we added in the challenge cards. For us, they made the cards just the right amount of challenging, while still keeping it fun. They also added some silly, much-needed goofiness to the game. I was quite proud of myself when I managed to complete a build with my eyes closed! Another card I managed to successfully give instructions for without speaking; I did it all in mime!

While playing, I felt a bit like I was completing a LEGO staff meeting team building exercise, but I have to admit, this is one team building exercise I would actually want to participate in. Let’s be real, who doesn’t love playing with LEGO? I really enjoyed playing Brick Like This cooperatively, and I’m looking forward to taking it to my next game night for a competitive play-through.
