6 nimmt! returns again, this time with a 30th-anniversary edition!

If you’re unfamiliar with 6 nimmt!, the aim is to finish the game with the lowest score. All cards have between 1-7 bullheads, worth 1 point each. Every turn, you will be playing a card to one of 4 centre rows. Cards are played in ascending order, and rows can’t contain more than 5 cards. If your card cannot be placed (too low) or would be the 6th card (too high), you must take the row (or row of your choice if too low), earning yourself unwanted points.

In addition to the core game, the 30th-anniversary edition includes optional new ways to play, including a pro variant for 2-6 players, special fan-made cards, and cooperative and solo modes in which you compete against “the buffalo”. Having played 6 nimmt! previously, I was curious to try the additional variants. I was pleased to find that the variants keep the core mechanisms of 6 nimmt! I know and love while offering variety and some extra spice for a bit more of a challenge. The optional nature of these variants makes this edition a perfect fit for first-time 6 nimmt! players and long-time fans alike!

It’s easy to see why this game has stood the test of time. Despite its age, it doesn’t feel outdated or stale – instead, this gives me classic card game nostalgia vibes. Its neutral theme makes it approachable and gives it broad appeal, even to those who don’t consider themselves “gamers”. Its simple ruleset and small box size make it easy to get this one to the table, anywhere and any time – especially now that it has a solo variant!
