The Boardgame Detective has been bringing you riveting articles for over 5 years now! It’s time to shake things up, have a refresh, spill some new blood on the blog and draw some new chalk outlines around the resultant bodies!
Uh, I mean, we are introducing a new short form review format and with that some new authors! Case Files will be short 1 minute reads, giving a brief glimpse into what it’s like to play a game, the highs, the lows and of course, lots of lovely pictures. We also have this cool new file header thingy:
| 👨👩👧👦 | Players: 2 |
| ⏳ | Time: 12 mins |

Can you guess the game? Anyway…. Without further stalling for time, let’s introduce our new Detectives:

As a child, I played classic games like Monopoly, Mousetrap, and Trouble, and then I didn’t play many board games again until 2011. That was the year a friend introduced me to the wonders of modern board gaming with a game called Zombies!!! After that I purchased Carcassone, and then there was no looking back.
I’m pretty easygoing about the type of games I play, though I don’t often play heavier games or social deduction games. The mechanisms I most enjoy are worker and/or tile placement, and I love playing games that feel like they have a puzzle to solve.
Board games are a huge source of joy in my life. Not only do I love playing, but I also enjoy recommending games, teaching others how to play, and bringing new people into the hobby. Through this blog and my Instagram, I hope to share my passion for board games with you and help you find games that will bring you joy too.

Even though we both grew up playing classic games with our families, our journey into modern gaming only started in 2017 when we decided to attend a local convention. The game library opened our eyes to all the amazing games out there and we’ve been hooked ever since! We enjoy a variety of games from quick and easy card games to mid-heavy Euro games, just don’t ask us to play anything that requires speed! We started sharing our love of games on Instagram nearly 2 years ago and our goal is to focus on the 2-player gaming experience, since we mostly play together. We hope our thoughts will help you work out which games are great to play at 2p, and which games you should save to play with a larger group.
If you are wondering what happened to Beth – she wasn’t involved in any sort of gruesome investigation related accident, she’s mostly retired from the Detective game these days, and spends her days over on the supply side of crime games: running Canberra’s best Boardgame store, Boardom Games!
